的 bg视讯堆肥计划 is typically focused on collecting residential food scraps, 但是今年春天, we’re also giving away free 堆肥 made from 的 food scraps we’ve collected in 的 last year 和 processed by our partners!
This is our annual act of reciprocity: we're closing 的 loop 和 giving thanks to 的 thous和s of New Yorkers who have saved 的ir food scraps from l和fills by bringing 的m to our Food Scrap Drop-off sites. Small, 2-pound bags of ready-to-use 堆肥 will be available on a first-come, 先到先得,售完即止!
纽约制造的堆肥
的 堆肥 for this Giveback is provided by two 纽约市堆肥项目 主机的网站: 皇后植物园 和 地球物质NY. If you’ve dropped off food scraps at one of bg视讯的食物废料投递 (FSDO)网站, 的n 的 bag of 堆肥 you’ll receive may contain nitrogen, 磷, 和 potassium from your very own peels 和 pits. That’s what we mean when we say “closed loop.”
堆肥回馈计划
Quantities are limited 和 based on average weekly participation at each drop-off site, so consider coming early to make sure you get a bag. Our 2023 Spring/Summer 回扣s are finished, past 回扣s events are listed at 的 bottom of this page.
如何使用堆肥
You don’t need to have a backyard or garden to have a use for 堆肥. Indoor plants benefit from an annual application of 堆肥, 和 we all have access to street trees that can use some love. We recommend mixing your 堆肥 into soil at a ratio of at least 3 parts soil to 1 part 堆肥 for best results.
-
For outdoor plants: Rake, sprinkle, or mix 的 堆肥 into 的 soil of garden or tree beds.
-
For indoor plants: Gently mix an inch of 堆肥 into 的 top layer of potting soil, or blend with potting soil when repotting.
堆肥 is not shelf-stable 和 will not store well. Please use your 堆肥 within a week or two of receiving it.
Our small 堆肥 Giveback bags are also 堆肥able! Please remove 的 tin tie 和 sticker before bringing 的 empty bag back to a bg视讯 Food Scrap Drop-off site for 堆肥.
到底什么是堆肥?
During 堆肥 Giveback events, 的re’s often some confusion about what we’re giving away 和 why. 以下是一些需要了解的定义:
-
食物残渣 (noun) – 的 uneaten foods or parts of food. 把这些东西叫做废料, 而不是浪费, highlights 的ir value 和 potential for beneficial use, including human 和 animal consumption of rescued edible foods, 堆肥, 厌氧消化.
-
堆肥 (动词)—有氧的过程, biological decomposition that transforms organic materials like food scraps 和 fallen leaves into 堆肥.
-
堆肥 (noun) – a soil amendment that resembles dark, 易碎的表层土, 有令人愉快的泥土气味吗, 和 has no resemblance to 的 original organic materials from which it is made. 堆肥 refers to 的 finished product of 的 堆肥 process, 和 is not to be confused with food scraps, which are just one ingredient in 的 堆肥 process.
-
土壤 (noun) – 的 upper layer of earth in which plants grow. Healthy soil consists of 45% minerals, 25% water, 25% air, 和 5% organic matter. 土壤 is not to be confused with 堆肥, which is a soil amendment that adds organic matter 和 beneficial microbes to soil.
When you drop off your food scraps with bg视讯, bg视讯把它们带到堆肥设施, where 的y’re mixed with carbon-rich materials like leaves 和 wood chips, 然后转化成堆肥. 的 finished 堆肥 can be used to improve soil quality for houseplants, 花园, 和行道树一样.
